Zaanse Schans

Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk in the municipality of Zaanstad in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses. The Zaanse Schans is a protected historic area on the banks of the Dutch River Zaan, in the province of Noord-Holland (north of Amsterdam). It has characteristic green wooden houses, charming old gardens, small hump-backed wooden bridges, tradesman's workshops, historic windmills and interesting old shops.
