Burgos
Burgos is a city of northern Spain, at the edge of the central plateau, with about 178,000 inhabitants in the city proper and another 15,000 in its suburbs. It is the capital of the province of Burgos, in the autonomous community of Castile and León. The Burgos Laws or Leyes de Burgos first governing the behaviour of Spaniards towards natives of the Americas were promulgated there in 1512. To enter the old part of the city pass through the Arco de Santa María, an impressive gateway carved with statues of different local dignitaries, into the Plaza Del Rey San Fernando, home of Spain's finest Gothic Cathedral which completely dominates the centre of the old town.
At an elevation of 856 m, the city of Burgos and its province have a Continental Mediterranean climate. Burgos is rich in ancient churches and convents.
